StyShot ("we", "our", "the app") is a lightweight screenshot capture and sharing tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
TL;DR: We don't collect personal data. Screenshots you upload are stored on our servers to enable sharing. We don't track you, sell data, or use analytics.
1. Information We Collect
We do NOT collect:
Personal information (name, email, address, phone number)
Device identifiers or fingerprints
Usage analytics or telemetry
Browsing history or activity logs
Location data
Cookies (the desktop app has no cookies; the viewer page uses none)
We DO store:
Uploaded Screenshots: When you use the "Upload" feature, the selected screenshot image (PNG) is transmitted to our cloud server and stored as a file. This is the only data we receive.
2. How We Use Your Data
Screenshot Storage: Uploaded images are stored solely to enable the shareable link feature. Each image is assigned a random, non-sequential ID.
No Processing: We do not analyze, scan, modify, or process your screenshots in any way.
No Third-Party Sharing: We do not sell, rent, or share your uploaded images with any third parties.
3. Data Stored Locally
The desktop application stores the following data locally on your device only:
Settings: Your configured hotkey, save folder path, and server URL are stored using Electron's secure storage (electron-store). This data never leaves your device.
Saved Screenshots: When you press Ctrl+S, screenshots are saved to your chosen folder on your device. We have no access to these files.
Clipboard Data: When you press Ctrl+C, the screenshot is copied to your system clipboard. This stays on your device.
4. Cloud Sharing
Uploaded screenshots are accessible via a unique URL (e.g., https://server/v/aBcDeFgHiJ).
Anyone with the link can view the screenshot. Do not upload sensitive or private content.
We do not require authentication or accounts to upload or view screenshots.
Uploaded images may be removed at any time without notice for maintenance, storage, or policy reasons.
5. Google Lens Integration
The "Search on Google Lens" feature opens your uploaded screenshot in Google's Lens service via your web browser. This action is handled entirely by Google. We do not control or have access to Google's data processing. Please review Google's Privacy Policy for details.
6. Data Retention
Uploaded screenshots are stored indefinitely unless manually removed by us for maintenance.
We reserve the right to implement automatic expiration (e.g., 30-day auto-delete) in future updates.
Local settings and saved screenshots are retained until you uninstall the app or manually delete them.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable measures to protect stored data:
Random, non-guessable IDs for uploaded images
No directory listing of uploaded files
Server access controls
However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of uploaded screenshots.
8. Children's Privacy
StyShot is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has uploaded content through our service, please contact us for removal.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
Not upload: Use the app entirely offline (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+S) without ever sending data to our servers.
Request deletion: Contact us to request removal of any uploaded screenshot.
Self-host: Run your own instance of the cloud server for complete data control.
10. Open Source
StyShot is open source under the MIT License. You can audit the entire codebase to verify our privacy claims. The source code is publicly available.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
